Look After Your Dog

Look After Your Dog Case Study

One of Kespoke’s latest projects is Look After Your Dog.  The site was started by an ex-police dog handler, as he wanted to go on holiday but struggled to find somewhere to leave his dog that was not kennels.  It has been running successfully in the West Midlands for the last 9 years, but the core system needed development to assist the businesses further expansion throughout the UK.

David joined the senior management team in 2020 to oversee the core system updates with Kehorne Senior Developer, Daniel Hardy.

A rolling list of improvements were identified to enhance the user experience and remove any possible barriers to sign-ups on the site, including subtle layout changes and streamlining of the contact forms.

The site was moved from its existing hosting to a new dedicated hosting service with Cloudways which improved page load speed and ensured the site is ready to be scaled up for user growth.  A full review of the site’s code was also undertaken and upgraded from PHP5 to PHP7.  PHP is the coding language that the site is written in and communicates with the server to create the html that the user interacts with.  Essentially, the benefits of this upgrade ensure site security and longevity – by being on the latest, supported version of the technology.

As well as a security best practice review and speed checks across the site, we streamlined the registration process and booking flow to improve the user journey and make it more customer friendly on mobile

Sales, management and technical consultancy were also provided by the Kespoke team in order to future proof their systems and enable sustainable, manageable growth of the website going forward.

About Look After Your Dog

The service includes a search tool to find fully approved dog boarders, get in touch and check availability.  LAYD is licensed by the council under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of activities involving animals) England regulations 2018.

Dog boarders can choose how many and what type of dogs they would like to look after and meet the dogs (and their owners) before looking after them in their own home.  The free, easy to use booking system and calendar enables them to manage their own availability and offer other services such as doggy daycare and holiday boarding.

Each has their own online profile and hassle free payments and invoices, free Insurance for the dog’s stay (for unforeseen events, medical issues and vet bills), help with the council licence application form and personal support as and when needed.
